Who Shows Their Affection with Diamonds? These 6 Celebrity Couples!

Who Shows Their Affection with Diamonds? These 6 Celebrity Couples!
/

Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. celebrated their 13th wedding anniversary last week by sharing a throwback pic via Instagram, inspiring us to celebrate with them by taking a look at how other celebs celebrate their love.

Like all couples, the rich and famous show their love for one another in many ways – the longing look, the snatched kiss, and of course, the life-long commitment. That commitment is often symbolised with diamond jewellery, most notably – though not exclusively – thediamond engagement ring.

  1. Sarah’s stunning ring made its public debut at the Sydney, Australia premier of Moulin Rouge. The ring, which she described as having “dragonflies holding it up”, is – as all engagement rings should be – a reflection of her and Freddie’s unique relationship and enduring love.

2. The ultimate “it” couple – Victoria and David Beckham – have the best of everything. The best, of course, includes jewellery. Over the course of their more than 16-year marriage he has given her (are you ready for it?) 13 engagement rings! The most dazzling of the collection is a heart-shaped stone worth about £112,000 that she wore to the 2014 Met Gala. For a couple that has consistently set style trends, this vast array of jaw-dropping diamond rings is not surprising.

3. The always classy Dame Julie Andrews and the late Blake Edwards were one of Hollywood’s happiest couples. No wonder the marriage lasted more than 40 years – it began with a 9-carat ring that led to a lovely 1969 wedding in the garden of her Beverly Hills home. Their successful marriage (the secret of which she said was taking it “one day at a time”) lasted until his death in 2010.

Who doesn’t love a garden wedding?

4. George Clooney’s gift of an ethically-sourced 7-carat diamond ring to his fiancée Amal Alamuddin, is the perfect reflection of the couple’s commitment to issues of social justice. The emerald-cut diamond flanked by 2 tapered baguettes is set in platinum and makes an unmistakable statement about their love for one another.

5. Keira Knightley’s brilliant-cut, 2-carat solitaire set in platinum engagement ring makes a classic statement. It perfectly reflects the down-to-earth couple’s (she married musician James Righton in 2013) understated sophistication. The movie goddess and the rock star defied celebrity conventions by opting for a relatively modest ring.

6. Of course, no one can top the Royal Family for spectacular jewellery worn with impeccable style. Kate Middleton’s engagement ring is, as we all know, the one given by her now father-in-law Prince Charles to Prince William’s mother Princess Diana in 1981. Inthat ring, the 18-carat sapphire steals the show, though it is the diamonds that surround it that give it its unique flash.

But no true princess is without her diamonds, and the Duchess of Cambridge showed her love of the stone on her wedding day by wearing the Cartier “Halo” Tiara, formerly owned by the late Queen Mother. Formed from “16 graduated scrolls set with 739 brilliants and 149 baton diamonds”, the spectacular tiara truly announced to the world that there was another princess taking her place on the world stage.

We all hope for love that will endure, and when celebrities take a moment to share their personal joy, like Sarah and Freddie did, it reminds us that love truly can. It also gives us an excuse to look longingly at the gorgeous diamond rings that have adorned some of the world’s most famous women, and wonder what it might be like to be them.
